<\/a>GOES-16 “Red” Visible (0.64 \u00b5m) images, with an overlay of GLM Flash Extent Density and surface fronts [click to play animated GIF | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>1-minute Mesoscale Domain Sector GOES-16 (GOES-East)<\/em> “Red” Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images (above)<\/strong><\/em> included an overlay of GLM<\/strong><\/a> Flash Extent Density and surface fronts — which showed severe thunderstorms that developed across southern Oklahoma (along and ahead of a cold front) and North Texas (ahead of a dryline) during the afternoon and evening hours on 16 March 2023<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n GOES-16 \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m) images, with time-matched SPC Storm Reports plotted in red [click to play animated GIF | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>1-minute GOES-16 Visible images (above)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0included time-matched (+\/- 3 minutes) plots of\u00a0SPC Storm Reports<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 which included a few tornadoes in Texas, hail as large as 2.40 inches in diameter in Oklahoma and 3.00 inches in Texas, and wind gusts as high as 65 knots in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n The corresponding 1-minute GOES-16 \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.3 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images with plots of time-matched SPC Storm Reports\u00a0(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated that some of the thunderstorm overshooting tops exhibited infrared brightness temperatures in the -70 to -73\u00baC range (lighter gray pixels embedded within darker black regions).<\/p>\n<\/a>
