Strongest wind gusts were in the 60-70 mph range, and blowing dust was reducing the surface visibility to 1.5 miles or less at some locations.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Max Wind Gusts &#8211; The axis of  severe maximum gusts through 1:30pm CST have been from Hobbs and Tatum New Mexico into the southwestern South Plains to near Lubbock.  Highest gusts have been  69mph at Plains and Denver City.  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/lubwx?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#lubwx<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/txwx?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#txwx<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3yD9gdXaXY\">pic.twitter.com\/3yD9gdXaXY<\/a><\/p>&mdash; NWS Lubbock (@NWSLubbock) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSLubbock\/status\/1628482019226181632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 22, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>A better signature of the blowing dust was seen in True Color RGB images &#8212; produced using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/software\/geo2grid\/\"><strong>Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; from GOES-18 <em>(GOES-West)<\/em>, GOES-17 and GOES-16 <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>. GOES-17 (formerly GOES-West) was temporarily operating from its pre-storage checkout position over the Equator at 104.7 W longitude.
