Buoy <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/02\/230212_buoy46077_airTemperature.png\"><strong>air temperatures<\/strong><\/a> had fallen into the 10-12F range during that time, with <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/02\/230212_buoy46077_wind_gust.png\"><strong>wind gusts<\/strong><\/a> of 40-50 knots &#8212; providing ideal conditions for rapid ice accretion.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/02\/230212_buoy46077_iceAccretionRate.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2023\/02\/230212_buoy46077_iceAccretionRate.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plot of Buoy 46077 Ice Accretion Rates<\/p><\/div>\n<p>RCM\/Radarsat-2 SAR winds at 1630 UTC on 12 February (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov\/socd\/mecb\/sar\/AKDEMO_products\/APL_winds\/wind_images_nic\/sarwinds_daily_now.html?date=20230212\"><strong>source<\/strong><\/a>) are shown below &#8212; a NW-to-SE oriented swath of strong offshore winds (40-50 knots, darker shades of red) was seen extending from the far southern end of Cook Inlet (where the aforementioned 64-knot GOES-18 DMW speed was located) into the northwestern Gulf of Alaska.
