MIMIC Total Precipitable Water fields, above, (from <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/mtpw2\/product.php?color_type=tpw_nrl_colors&amp;prod=spac&amp;timespan=24hrs&amp;anim=html5\">this site<\/a>, or downloadable <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.ssec.wisc.edu\/pub\/mtpw2\/images\/tpw_nrl_colors\/spac\/\">here<\/a>) show an atmospheric connection between the deep tropical moisture that is persistent between 5<sup>o<\/sup>S and 20<sup>o<\/sup>S;  a filament moves with a cyclonic swirl from 26-28 January.  A second region of even more moisture is poised to the north of New Zealand by <a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.ssec.wisc.edu\/pub\/mtpw2\/images\/tpw_nrl_colors\/spac\/202301\/comp20230130.000000_tpw.png\">0000 UTC 30 January<\/a>.  How unusually wet is this moisture stream?  NOAA&#8217;s Office of Satellite Products and Observations (OSPO) produces percent-of-normal total precipitable water products, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ospo.noaa.gov\/Products\/bTPW\/Product_Animation.html\">available at this website<\/a>. Values for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/CMORPH_24hPrecip_26January2023.png\">24 hours ending 2359 UTC on 26 January<\/a>, and for the 24 hours ending on 27 January, below, show values near 100 mm around Auckland for the two days.
