For more details, see the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/media\/spotlight\/goes15\/\">SSEC Spotlight<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.noaanews.noaa.gov\/stories2010\/20100407_goes15.html\">NOAA News<\/a><\/strong> pages. GOES-15 (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/GOES-P\/main\/index.html\">GOES-P<\/a><\/strong>) is the final spacecraft in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/visit\/goes-n.html\">GOES N\/O\/P series<\/a><\/strong> &#8212; the next quantum leap in GOES satellite capabilities will come with the launch of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/\">GOES-R<\/a><\/strong> in 2015. GOES-R will include the improved 16-channel <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/abi\/\">Advanced Baseline Imager<\/a><\/strong> (ABI).<\/p>\n<p>The GOES-15 satellite will go through its <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/projects\/goes-p\/\">post launch  science test<\/a><\/strong> during the Summer of 2010.<\/p>\n<p>A few close-up views from this GOES-15 full Kansas<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Within a few hours, the cumulus clouds seen forming along the cold front in eastern Kansas <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> developed into severe thunderstorms that produced <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/climo\/reports\/100406_rpts.html\">hail up to 1.75 inch in diameter and wind gusts to 70 mph<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" Southeast US on 06 April, according to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/100406_1745_wfabba.jpg\">CIMSS Wildfire-ABBA<\/a><\/strong> product and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/hms20100406.prelim.jpg\">NOAA Hazards Mapping visible image was the rather large cloud swirl associated with a  cyclone located over the far southern portion of the South Pacific Ocean, west of the southern tip of South America (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/100406_12utc_south_pacific_sfc_analysis.jpg\">surface analysis<\/a><\/strong>). While it was large in size, it did not have access to a significant amount of moisture, as indicated by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2010\/04\/100404-06_mimic_tpw_anim.gif\">MIMIC Total Precipitable Water<\/a><\/strong> product.
