The Pago Pago sounding from 1200 UTC on 20 January is shown below, (from <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.uwyo.edu\/cgi-bin\/sounding?region=pac&amp;TYPE=GIF%3ASKEWT&amp;YEAR=2023&amp;MONTH=01&amp;FROM=2012&amp;TO=2012&amp;STNM=91765\">this site<\/a>), and it also shows moisture (2.15&#8243;) over the island.  Moisture behind the remains of tropical cyclone Irene are affecting Fiji in this image (Heavy Rains\/flooding warnings are occurring), and at the far western edge of the domain, high clouds associated with Invest 92P are apparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/2023012012.91765.skewt_.parc_.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49899\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">1200 UTC Skew-T\/log p sounding at Pago Pago, 20 January 2023 (Click to enlarge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>GOES-18 Level 2 Total Precipitable Water is computed only where clear skies are present.  Total Precipitable Water can also be estimated using microwave data;  microwave-derived <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/mtpw2\/product.php?color_type=tpw_nrl_colors&amp;prod=spac&amp;timespan=120hrs&amp;anim=html5\">MIMIC total precipitable water<\/a> fields are shown below.  The cyclonic circulations of Irene (passing between New Caledonia and Fiji on 18-19 January) and the developing 92P (near New Caledonia at the end of the animation) are apparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/comp20230116.00_to_0120.12anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"470\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/comp20230116.00_to_0120.12anim.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49900\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">MIMIC Total Precipitable Water fields, 0000 UTC on 16 January through 1200 UTC 20 January 2023 (Click to enlarge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>How likely is the tropical development of the disturbed weather over Samoa into a tropical cyclone?  Wind shear values from the SSEC\/CIMSS Tropical site, shown below, show a region of small shear over the Samoan islands, moving west with time.
