The GOES-West enhanced Band 9 imagery (6.9 \u00b5m, mid-level water vapor) illustrates how moisture associated with the recent similar <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/49513\">Trans-Pacific atmospheric river<\/a> generated heavy rainfall for much of California, Oregon, and Washington. Overlayed with NEXRAD radar reflectivity, the animation below paints a good picture of the rainfall that accumulated within the 21 hours shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1576\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 2872 \/ 1576;\" width=\"2872\" controls src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2023\/01\/CaliforniaAR0123.mov\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A 21-hour animation showing GOES West Band 9 overlayed with NEXRAD reflectivity values.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnrfc.noaa.gov\/precipMaps.php?group=nca&amp;hour=24&amp;synoptic=0\">California Nevada River Forecast Center<\/a> reports that some areas in northern California have already accumulated up to five inches of rain in the past 24 hours.
