Peak 3.9 \u00b5m infrared brightness temperature (102.53\u00baC) and Fire Power (1570.84 MW) values were seen at <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2022\/11\/221123_2006utc_goes16_4panel_SD_fire.png\"><strong>2006 UTC<\/strong><\/a> (the Fire Power derived product is a component of the GOES Fire Detection and Characterization Algorithm <a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/training_sessions\/goes_r_fire_surface_properties\/video\/presentation_html5.html?lms=1\"><strong>FDCA<\/strong><\/a>). Clouds began to move over the fire late in the day, thereby masking its thermal signature.<\/p>\n<p>A toggle between Suomi-NPP VIIRS True Color RGB and False Color RGB images valid at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/datacenter\/polar_orbit_tracks\/data\/NPP\/2022\/2022_11_23_327\/NA.gif\"><strong>2016 UTC<\/strong><\/a> <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> provided a higher-resolution view of the narrow, dark burn scar as well as the smoke plume; in the False Color image, the hottest signature at the leading (southern) edge of the fire showed up as brighter shades of pink. Note how the fire&#8217;s burn scar initially moved eastward about 1 mile, but then\u00a0 jogged toward the southeast as surface winds with gusts in the 20-26 knot range (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2022\/11\/221123_KIEN_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Pine Ridge SD observations<\/strong><\/a>) abruptly shifted from westerly to northwesterly (in the wake of a <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2022\/11\/221123_21utc_surface_analysis.png\"><strong>cold frontal<\/strong><\/a> passage).
