{"id":482,"date":"2007-08-17T12:18:50","date_gmt":"2007-08-17T12:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/2007\/08\/17\/erintuttdean\/"},"modified":"2007-08-18T19:12:49","modified_gmt":"2007-08-18T19:12:49","slug":"erin-tutt-dean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/482","title":{"rendered":"Erin&#8230;TUTT&#8230;Dean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/tutt_wv_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 water vapor images (Animated GIF)\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/tutt_wv_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 water vapor images (Animated GIF)\" alt=\"GOES-12 water vapor images (Animated GIF)\" align=\"middle\" height=\"363\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>AWIPS images of the GOES-12 water vapor channel <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed 3 distinct cyclonic circulation features on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20070817.html\" title=\"17 August 2007 daily weather map\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>17 August 2007<\/strong><\/a>: (1) the remnants of <strong>Tropical Storm Erin<\/strong> over Texas, (2) a <strong>Tropical Upper Tropospheric Trough<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aoml.noaa.gov\/hrd\/tcfaq\/A10.html\" title=\"TUTT\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TUTT<\/strong><\/a>) over the Bahamas, and (3) rapidly intensifying <strong>Hurricane Dean<\/strong> over the western Atlantic Ocean <em>(see the <a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/tropic2\/\" title=\"CIMSS Tropical Cyclones site\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>CIMSS Tropical Cyclones site<\/strong><\/a> for the latest information on Hurricane Dean)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/tutt_wvwinds_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 water vapor winds (Animated GIF)\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/tutt_wvwinds_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 water vapor winds (Animated GIF)\" alt=\"GOES-12 water vapor winds (Animated GIF)\" align=\"middle\" height=\"458\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Satellite-derived water vapor winds <em>(or Atmospheric Motion Vectors)<\/em> using GOES-12 imagery <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> were helpful in diagnosing the intensification of the TUTT circulation over the Bahamas during the 15-17 August period. Note that the TUTT circulation was evident in the upper-tropospheric <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/070817_12z_wv_200winds.jpg\" title=\"200 hPa wind fields\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>200 hPa wind fields<\/strong><\/a>, but not on the lower-tropospheric <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/070817_12z_wv_850winds.jpg\" title=\"850 hPa wind fields\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>850 hPa wind fields<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/070817_cras_anim.gif\" title=\"CRAS forecast imagery (Animated GIF)\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/08\/070817_cras_anim.gif\" title=\"CRAS forecast imagery (Animated GIF)\" alt=\"CRAS forecast imagery (Animated GIF)\" align=\"middle\" height=\"361\" width=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since TUTT features can sometimes inhibit tropical cyclone development by introducing greater environmental shear, we examined a series of forecast synthetic water vapor channel + IR channel satellite imagery from the <a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/model\/realtime\/\" title=\"CRAS model\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>CRAS model<\/strong><\/a> <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em>.
