The Fire Temperature and Fire Power derived products are components of the GOES Fire Detection and Characterization Algorithm <a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/training_sessions\/goes_r_fire_surface_properties\/video\/presentation_html5.html?lms=1\"><strong>FDCA<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During this brief flareup, the peak values of Shortwave Infrared, Fire Power and Fire Temperature were a rather modest 83.17\u00baC, 886.98 MW and 845.37 K respectively &#8212; however, the fire was hot enough to produce a notable smoke plume that then drifted southeastward. This flareup apparently occurred during a local increase in terrain-driven wind speeds, around the time that the nocturnal temperature inversion was eroding (which aided in the rapid vertical ventilation of fresh smoke).<\/p>\n<p>GOES-17 True Color RGB images created using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/software\/geo2grid\/\"><strong>Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a> <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> provided a clearer view of the smoke plume as it curled southeastward &#8212; along with the ventilation of smoke from nearby valleys that had settled into lower elevations beneath the nocturnal temperature inversion.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2022\/07\/220721_goes17_trueColorRGB_Moose_Fire_ID_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2022\/07\/GOES-17_ABI_RadM2_true_color_2022202_150355Z.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"600\"><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-17 True Color RGB images [click to play animated GIF | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2022\/07\/220721_goes17_trueColorRGB_Moose_Fire_ID_anim.mp4\"><strong>MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1-minute Mesoscale Domain Sector GOES-17 (GOES-West) \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m), Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m), Fire Power and Fire Temperature images (above) showed an unusual early-morning flareup of the Moose Fire in Idaho on 21 July 2022.
