These vortices frequently perturb the local &#8220;dynamic tropopause&#8221; (represented by the PV1.5 pressure), drawing it down to lower altitudes (as was seen <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/38878\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/8128\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/misc\/winds\/info.winds.midshr.html\"><strong>Mid Level Wind Shear<\/strong><\/a> product from the <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\"><strong>CIMSS Tropical Cyclones<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed that this satellite feature had developed along a tight gradient of wind shear off the California coast.
