GOES-16 <em>(GOES-East)<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/23225\"><strong>Mesoscale Domain Sector 1<\/strong><\/a> provided images at 1-minute intervals<em><strong>&nbsp;(above)<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; reflectance and\/or thermal signatures of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/vehicles\/falcon-9\/\"><strong>Falcon-9<\/strong><\/a> rocket booster were seen in 15 of the 16 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/spacesegment\/abi.html\"><strong>ABI<\/strong><\/a> spectral bands during the initial portion of its northeastward trajectory. The hottest Shortwave Infrared (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band07\/.pdf\"><strong>3.9&nbsp;<em>\u00b5m<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) brightness temperature was 70.63\u00baC at 0205 UTC (which was around the time of Second Stage ignition).<\/p>\n<p>A zoomed-in comparison of GOES-16 Visible and Near-Infrared images at 0204 UTC <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> provided a better view of the signatures just off the coast of Florida &#8212; an <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/11\/211111_0204utc_goes16_bands01-16_cursorSample_crew3_launch.png\"><strong>AWIPS cursor sampling<\/strong><\/a> indicated that there was even a 0.13% reflectance signal in the <a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band01.pdf\"><strong>0.47 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a> &#8220;Blue&#8221; Visible image (but this value was not bright enough to be seen using the default enhancement).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/11\/211111_0204utc_goes16_bands01-06_zoom_Crew2_launch_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/11\/211111_0204utc_goes16_bands01-06_zoom_Crew2_launch_anim.gif\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\"><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Comparison of GOES-16 Visible and Near-Infrared images at 0204 UTC [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>\n<p>GOES-16 Plume RGB images <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> highlighted a bright thermal signature of the Falcon-9 rocket booster ascent, as well as the darker signature of low-altitude condensation clouds (resulting from the rocket launch) which moved slowly eastward.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/11\/GOES-16_RadM1_plume_2021315_020028_2021315_021125.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/11\/GOES-16_ABI_RadM1_plume_2021315_020525Z.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"380\"><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 Plume RGB (credit: Tim Schmit, NOAA\/NESDIS) [click to play animated GIF]<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A toggle between Plume RGB images from GOES-16 and GOES-17 at 0205 UTC <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed a significant eastward <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/217\"><strong>parallax<\/strong><\/a> displacement of the yellow\/orange thermal anomaly signature on the GOES-17 image.
