The Himawari-8 Target Sector clean window infrared (Band 13, 10.4 \u00b5m) imagery, above, from 0232 &#8211; 1502 UTC (Imagery courtesy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jma.go.jp\/jma\/indexe.html\">JMA<\/a>;  imagery available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.data.jma.go.jp\/mscweb\/data\/himawari\/\">here<\/a>), shows deep convection becoming more organized as the storm center moved.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moderate wind shear that had been affecting Kompasu slowly relaxed in the 24 hours before the storm moved north of Luzon, as shown in the wind shear tendency map shown below (imagery obtained from <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/windmain.php?&amp;basin=westpac&amp;sat=wgms&amp;prod=wvir&amp;zoom=&amp;time=\">this link<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\">CIMSS Tropical Website<\/a>). Wind shear for both animations above is defined <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/misc\/winds\/info.winds.shr.html\">here<\/a>.  A relatively small area of favorable wind shear was near the storm center as Kompasu became better organized in the band 13 imagery above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scatterometry imagery, below, from various satellite platforms <a href=\"https:\/\/scatterometer.knmi.nl\/tile_prod\/\">at this site<\/a>, tracked the system&#8217;s motion from 0100 to 1130 UTC on 11 October, as it moved north of Luzon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"818\" height=\"1157\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/scatterometry_hy_ascat_0100UTC_1130UTC_11Oct_step.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42820\" \/><figcaption>Scatterometer imagery from HY-2B and HY-2C, and from ASCAT A, B and C, between 0100 and 1130 UTC on 11 October (2021)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kompasu is forecast to move due west across the South China Sea in the next days, affecting the island of Hainan on the 13th before 1200 UTC.  (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/kompasuForecastTrack_JTWC_Morning11October.gif\">Forecast<\/a>, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoc.navy.mil\/jtwc\/jtwc.html\">JTWC<\/a>;  <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/10\/kompasuForecastTrack_JMA_1200UTC11October.gif\">Here<\/a> is a similar plot from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jma.go.jp\/jma\/jma-eng\/jma-center\/rsmc-hp-pub-eg\/RSMC_HP.htm\">JMA<\/a>).
