1\u2013minute\u00a0Mesoscale Domain Sector<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0GOES-16\u00a0(GOES-East)<\/em>\u00a0\u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>)\u00a0<\/em>and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.35 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images\u00a0(above)\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>showed Tropical Storm Fred<\/strong><\/a> during the 8-hour period leading up to it making landfall along the panhandle of Florida around 1915 UTC on 16 August 2021<\/strong><\/a>. Multiple convective bursts developed near the storm center, with some exhibiting cloud-top infrared brightness temperatures of -80\u00baC or colder (violet pixels). As Fred moved inland, it produced heavy rainfall and strong winds<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

A time-matched comparison of Infrared images from GOES-16 and Suomi NPP at 1831 UTC is shown below. The coldest cloud-top infrared brightness temperatures were -74.1\u00baC with GOES-16 and -79.5\u00baC with Suomi NPP. The spatial offset is due to parallax<\/strong><\/a> that is inherent with GOES imagery.\u00a0<\/p>\n
