The maximum surface 3.9 \u00b5m brightness temperature sensed with this fire was 138.7\u00baC \u2014 which is the saturation temperature for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/spacesegment\/abi.html\"><strong>ABI<\/strong><\/a> Band 7 detectors.<\/p>\n<p>A plot of 00 UTC rawinsonde data from nearby Medford, Oregon <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> indicated that the -40\u00baC temperature closely corresponded to the height of the tropopause and the Most Unstable (MU) air parcel Equilibrium Level (EL).<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 652px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/07\/210715_00utc_kmfr_raob.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/07\/210715_00utc_kmfr_raob.png\" alt=\"Plot of 00 UTC rawinsonde data from Medford, Oregon [click to enlarge]\" width=\"642\" height=\"454\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plot of 00 UTC rawinsonde data from Medford, Oregon [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>On the following morning, signatures of the upper-tropospheric\/lower-stratospheric smoke that was forced aloft by the pyroCb cloud could be seen arcing east-southeastward over parts of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming on GOES-17 Visible and Near-Infrared &#8220;Cirrus&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band04.pdf\"><strong>1.37 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong>.
