{"id":40505,"date":"2021-04-02T23:59:43","date_gmt":"2021-04-02T23:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/?p=40505"},"modified":"2021-04-05T01:56:43","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T01:56:43","slug":"prescribed-burns-and-industrial-smoke-plumes-across-the-central-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/40505","title":{"rendered":"Prescribed burns across the central US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div style=\"width: 654px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/04\/210402_goes16_trueColorRGB_Central_US_smoke_plumes_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/04\/GOES-16_ABI_RadC_true_color_2021092_220614Z.png\" alt=\"GOES-16 True Color RGB images [click to play animation | MP4]\" width=\"644\" height=\"644\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 True Color RGB images [click to play animation | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/04\/210402_goes16_trueColorRGB_Central_US_smoke_plumes_anim.mp4\"><strong>MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>Every Spring season, many states conduct prescribed burns as a part of land management within forests, parks, wetlands etc &#8212; and GOES-16 <em>(GOES-East)<\/em> True Color RGB images created using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/software\/geo2grid\/\"><strong>Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a> <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed a large number of smoke plumes associated with prescribed burning across parts of the central US on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20210402.html\"><strong>02 April 2021<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of particular interest was a very long smoke plume that was seen streaming northward across southern Lake Michigan &#8212; a closer view using GOES-16 True Color RGB images centered over that area <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated that 2 separate plumes merged into one larger\/longer smoke plume that continued to drift north-northeastward toward the west coast of Lower Michigan.
