An AWIPS image of the 17 UTC operational &#8220;GOES high density winds&#8221; overlaid on a  17:10 UTC water vapor image  <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> did not adequately resolve the closed circulation;  in contrast, the <a title=\"CIMSS mesoscale winds\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/snaap\/convinit\/quicklooks.php?datetime=latest&#038;products=windsall&#038;viewType=panel\"><strong>CIMSS &#8220;GOES mesoscale winds&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> (or &#8220;Atmospheric Motion Vectors&#8221;) generated at 16:15 UTC <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> did show the closed circulation of the upper low over eastern Colorado. These  mesoscale winds are part of a suite of products  available on the <a title=\"CIMSS SNAAP site\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/snaap\/convinit\/quicklooks.php\"><strong>Satellite-based Nowcasting and Aviation Application Program (SNAAP)<\/strong><\/a> site.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"CIMSS mesoscale winds\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/04\/070424_1615_mesoscale_winds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"326\" align=\"middle\" title=\"CIMSS mesoscale winds\" alt=\"CIMSS mesoscale winds\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/04\/070424_1615_mesoscale_winds.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An intense upper-tropospheric cutoff low was moving across the southern Rocky Mountain region on 24 April 2007, which was very evident on GOES-12 water vapor imagery (QuickTime animation).
