On 10 February, a comparison of Water Vapor images from GOES-17 (6.9 \u00b5m) and GOES-15 (6.5 \u00b5m) showed mountain waves over southeastern Wyoming and central Colorado <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em>. This comparison helped to highlight some of the improvements in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/\"><strong>GOES-R Series<\/strong><\/a>, such as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0improved spatial resolution with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/spacesegment\/abi.html\"><strong>ABI<\/strong><\/a> Water Vapor (and other infrared) spectral bands &#8212; 2 km at sub-satellite point for GOES-17, vs 4 km at sub-satellite point for GOES-15<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0improved temporal resolution &#8212; 5-minute image interval for GOES-17, vs 15-minute image interval for GOES-15 (except for 30-minute gaps every 3 hours, during Full Disk scans)<\/li>\n<li>more stable image navigation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Multi-panel animations of GOES-15 images from the <a href=\"http:\/\/nwafiles.nwas.org\/digest\/papers\/2001\/Vol25No34\/Pg28-Schmit.pdf\"><strong>Imager<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/training_sessions\/goes_sounder_data_and_products\/\"><strong>Sounder<\/strong><\/a> instruments are shown below (credit: Tim Schmit, NOAA\/ASPB).
