On the RGB images, snow cover appeared as shades of red, with low clouds and fog taking on shades of white (shades of green denoted bare ground).<br \/>\n<center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Wondering how much snow ? the winter storm brought? ? Notice the sharp cutoff between the areas that got snow vs areas that didn&#8217;t get any! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TXwx?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TXwx<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NMwx?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NMwx<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Winterstorm?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Winterstorm<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MMCpxTqaYS\">pic.twitter.com\/MMCpxTqaYS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NWS Midland (@NWSMidland) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSMidland\/status\/1345123467335647232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 1, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><br \/>\nWith some areas receiving storm total accumulations of 8-15 inches, the deep snow cover kept Land Surface Temperature (LST) values from rising past the low-mid 30s F during the day &#8212; even at locations such as Fort Stockton (KFST), which remained generally cloud-free during the daytime hours (their daily maximum temperature was only 36\u00baF). Over adjacent bare ground areas, LST values rose into the 50s and 60s F with a full day of sunshine. Air temperatures &#8212; measured by sheltered sensors located about 5 feet above the ground &#8212; were sometimes 10-15\u00baF cooler than LST values over bare ground, but over deep snow cover the air temperatures were generally only 5-8\u00baF warmer than the LST values.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>===== 02 January Update =====<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 636px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/01\/210102_goes16_daySnowFogRGB_LandSurfaceTemperature_TX_snow_cover_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/01\/tx_lst-20210102_230117.png\" alt=\"GOES-16 Day Snow-Fog RGB and Land Surface Temperature product [click to play animation | MP4]\" width=\"626\" height=\"292\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 Day Snow-Fog RGB and Land Surface Temperature product [click to play animation | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2021\/01\/210102_goes16_daySnowFogRGB_LandSurfaceTemperature_TX_snow_cover_anim.mp4\"><strong>MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>On the following day, a lack of clouds allowed a good view of the areal coverage of remaining snow cover <em><strong>(above).<\/strong><\/em> During the peak of daytime heating, GOES-16 LST values were held to the middle 30s F over the areas with deeper snow cover &#8212; while air temperatures rose into the 40s F\u00a0 (although the daily maximum temperature was only 40 at Big Spring KBPG).
