{"id":39296,"date":"2020-12-15T23:59:48","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T23:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/?p=39296"},"modified":"2020-12-17T04:23:59","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T04:23:59","slug":"blowing-dust-in-texas-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/39296","title":{"rendered":"Blowing dust in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div style=\"width: 651px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/12\/201215_goes16_dustRGB_TX_blowing_dust_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/12\/tx_rgb-20201215_210118.png\" alt=\"GOES-16 Dust RGB images [click to play animation | MP4]\" width=\"641\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 Dust RGB images [click to play animation | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/12\/201215_goes16_dustRGB_TX_blowing_dust_anim.mp4\"><strong>MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>As was seen <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/39218\"><strong>2 days earlier<\/strong><\/a>, a plume of blowing dust developed across the Texas Panhandle in the wake of a cold frontal passage, and was transported southeastward across western Texas on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20201215.html\"><strong>15 December 2020<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0&#8212; GOES-16\u00a0<em>(GOES-East)<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/quick_guides\/Dust_RGB_Quick_Guide.pdf\"><strong>Dust RGB<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0images\u00a0<em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> displayed signatures of this airborne dust <em>(brighter shades of pink)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>GOES-16 True Color RGB images created using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/software\/geo2grid\/\"><strong>Geo2Grid<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<em><strong>(below)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>showed the tan-colored signature of blowing dust increase during the afternoon hours leading up to sunset.
