to animate)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/38784\">Typhoon Goni hit the Phillipines as a major typhoon on 31 October<\/a>.\u00a0 Since then, an increase in shear and the topography of Luzon have both weakened the storm significantly.\u00a0 \u00a0The mp4 animation above (click <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/11\/H8MesoBand13Band02-20201102_0122_to_1352anim.mp4\">here<\/a> as an mp4) shows 2.5-minute Himawari-8 Target imagery Infrared (10.41 \u00b5m, left) and visible (0.64 \u00b5m, right) imagery from 0122 through 1352 UTC on 2 November.\u00a0 Although significant convection continues, especially after dark near the center, suggesting strengthening, strong easterly shear, shown below, from <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\">this website<\/a>, is present.\u00a0 Convection in the animation above is displaced to the west of the surface circulation, as expected given the shear.\u00a0 In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/11\/Shear_and_SST_12z_2Nov2020.png\">sea surface temperatures become progressively cooler along the projected track<\/a>.\u00a0 Environmental factors do not favor significant strengthening.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38800\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a
