<\/a>GOES-16 \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m)<\/em> and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.35 \u00b5m)<\/em> images (with and without an overlay of GLM Flash Extent Density) [click to play animation | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>1-minute\u00a0Mesoscale Domain Sector<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0GOES-16\u00a0(GOES-East)<\/em>\u00a0\u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) and\u00a0\u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.35 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images — with and without an overlay of GLM<\/strong><\/a> Flash Extent Density<\/strong><\/a> (above)<\/strong><\/em> showed Marco<\/strong><\/a> as it intensified from a Tropical Storm to a Category 1 hurricane at 1630 UTC<\/strong><\/a> on 23 August 2020. A pronounced semi-circular convective burst was seen to develop near the storm center shortly before 19 UTC.<\/p>\n A toggle between time-matched Infrared images from Suomi NPP and GOES-16 (below)<\/strong> <\/em>indicated that the coldest cloud-top infrared brightness temperature on the Suomi NP VIIRS image was -86.8\u00baC, compared to -81.5\u00baC from the GOES-16 ABI instrument (the same color enhancement has been applied to both images). The northward parallax displacement<\/strong><\/a> associated with GOES-16 imagery over the southern Gulf of Mexico was also apparent.<\/p>\n
