Smoke from <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"NOAA HMS fire activity\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/04\/hms20070328.jpg\"><strong>recent fire activity<\/strong><\/a> was likely the main contributor, but some of the elevated AOD signal may also have been due to <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"pollen count data\" href=\"http:\/\/remote.atlantaallergy.com\/pollencount\/pollencount.asp?month=3&#038;year=2007\"><strong>very high pollen counts<\/strong><\/a> in that region &#8212; pine tree pollen has been unusually high this Spring season due to <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"US Drought Monitor\" href=\"http:\/\/drought.unl.edu\/dm\/monitor.html\"><strong>abnormally dry conditions<\/strong><\/a> that have plagued much of the southeastern US.
