<\/a>GOES-16 \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m)<\/em> and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.35 \u00b5m)<\/em> images [click to play animation | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>1-minute\u00a0Mesoscale Domain Sector<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0GOES-16\u00a0(GOES-East)\u00a0<\/em>\u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) and \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.35 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images (above) <\/strong><\/em>showed the 10-hour period leading up to the time when Tropical Storm Isaias<\/strong><\/a> re-intensified to Category 1 hurricane<\/strong><\/a> intensity on 03 August 2020<\/strong><\/a>. The center of Isaias passed near Buoy 41004<\/strong><\/a> (below)<\/strong><\/em> — ahead of the storm, there was a wind gust to 62 knots (71 mph) at 21 UTC, and after the storm\u00a0 center had passed there was a wind gust to 68 knots (78 mph).<\/p>\n Plot of wind speed (blue),<\/em> wind gust (red)<\/em> and air pressure (green)<\/em> at Buoy 41004<\/p><\/div>GOES-16 Infrared images with and without an overlay of GLM<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Flash Extent Density<\/strong><\/a> (below)<\/strong><\/em> showed that there was some lightning activity associated with areas of deep convection around the center of Isaias.<\/p>\n GOES-16 \u201cClean\u201d Infrared Window (10.35 \u00b5m)<\/em> images, with and without an overlay of GLM Flash Extent Density [click to play animation | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>Hurricane Isaias made landfall\u00a0 in North Carolina at 0315 UTC on 04 August<\/strong><\/a> (11:15 PM EDT); a few hours later, VIIRS Day\/Night Band (0.7 \u00b5m) images from the VIIRS Today<\/strong><\/a> site (below)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0showed the hurricane as it was moving further inland.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a>
