The system was producing record daily <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/04\/200408_record_precip.text\"><strong>rainfall<\/strong><\/a> amounts, which in tandem with the clouds kept daily <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/04\/200408_record_temps.text\"><strong>high temperatures<\/strong><\/a> at record low values at some locations across Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>Overlapping 1-minute <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/23225\"><strong>Mesoscale Domain Sectors<\/strong><\/a> provided GOES-17 &#8220;Red&#8221; Visible (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band02.pdf\"><strong>0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images at 30-second intervals <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; which revealed the southeastward propagation of a compact circulation of clouds west of San Nicholas Island.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/04\/200408_goes17_visible_CA_vortex_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/04\/ca_vort-20200408_210355.png\" alt=\"GOES-17 \" width=\"640\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-17 &#8220;Red&#8221; Visible<em> (0.64 \u00b5m)<\/em> images [click to play animation | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/images\/2020\/04\/200408_goes17_visible_CA_vortex_anim.mp4\"><strong>MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GOES-17 (GOES-West) Mid-level Water Vapor (6.9 \u00b5m) images from the AOS site (above) showed the broad circulation around an anomalously-deep middle tropospheric cutoff low centered along the California coast on 08 April 2020.
