However, the satellite is not gone for good:\u00a0 it is scheduled to transmit data again in August of this year, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/34223\">GOES-17 Loop Heat Pipe issue<\/a> again renders GOES-West imagery incomplete during the eastern\/central Pacific Ocean Hurricane season.\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes-r\/abi-\/band_statistics_imagery.html\">This website<\/a> shows more specifics)<\/p>\n<p>GOES-15 became the operational GOES-West satellite &#8212; replacing GOES-11 &#8212; back in early December 2011 (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/9307\">Blog Post<\/a>;\u00a0 GOES-11 replaced GOES-10 as GOES-West back in 2006 (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/3990\">Blog Post<\/a>)).\u00a0 GOES-15 ceased being the operational GOES-West when GOES-17 became operational (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/31720\">February 12, 2017<\/a>), but GOES-15 has continued to transmit data to supplement imagery lost because of the GOES-17&#8217;s Loop Heat Pipe.<\/p>\n<p>Added:  The Science Test for GOES-15 is available <a href=\"ftp:\/\/ftp.library.noaa.gov\/noaa_documents.lib\/NESDIS\/TR_NESDIS\/TR_NESDIS_141.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As scheduled, GOES-15 has sent its last image (More information from NOAA&#8217;s Office of Satellite and Product Operations OSPO)\u00a0 .\u00a0 The final image sent was a 1552 UTC Southern Hemisphere sector, shown above (courtesy Tim Schmit). \u00a0 (One of the final Sounder images is here).
