GOES-12 visible imagery <em><strong>(above; <a title=\"GOES-12 visible images (Java animation)\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/02\/070205_g12_vis.html\">Java animation<\/a>)<\/strong><\/em> revealed a narrow filament of <a title=\"Drift ice (Wikipedia)\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Drift_ice\"><strong>drift ice<\/strong><\/a> that was being pushed by strong winds eastward out of the northern portion of Green Bay (just north of Washington Island) and into Lake Michigan. An AWIPS image of the <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"MODIS SST product\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2007\/02\/070205_modis_sst_vis.jpg\"><strong>MODIS sea surface temperature (SST) product<\/strong><\/a> indicated that lake water temperatures had cooled to the 32\u00c2\u00ba to 41\u00c2\u00ba F (0\u00c2\u00ba to +5\u00c2\u00ba C) range off the coast of Wisconsin. Also, note how the motion of the lake-effect snow bands over Lake Superior (in northern portion of the images) changes during the day, as the boundary layer winds develop more of a westerly component. Finer detail in the drift ice structure in Green Bay and northern Lake Michigan can be seen on a 500-m resolution MODIS true color image <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><strong>;<\/strong><\/em> drift ice coverage was also increasing in southern Lake Michigan, from <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Aqua MODIS true color image\" href=\"http:\/\/eosdb.ssec.wisc.edu\/modisdirect\/aqua\/calibratedImages\/2007\/036\/2007-02-05_1845-1858_HCHI_010403_QKM.jpg\"><strong>Milwaukee WI to Chicago IL to South Bend IN<\/strong><\/a>.<em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"MODIS true color image\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/eosdb.ssec.wisc.edu\/modisdirect\/terra\/calibratedImages\/2007\/036\/2007-02-05_1704-1716_HNLM_010403_QKM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"370\" align=\"middle\" title=\"MODIS true color image\" alt=\"MODIS true color image\" src=\"http:\/\/eosdb.ssec.wisc.edu\/modisdirect\/terra\/calibratedImages\/2007\/036\/2007-02-05_1704-1716_HNLM_010403_QKM.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a follow-up to the previous blog post, cold air and lake-effect snow continued across the Great Lakes region on 05 February 2007.
