<\/a>GOES-17 Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m)<\/em> and \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m)<\/em> images [click to play animation | MP4]<\/strong><\/a><\/p><\/div>1-minute Mesoscale Domain Sector<\/strong><\/a> GOES-17 (GOES-West)<\/em> Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) and \u201cRed\u201d Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images (above)<\/strong> <\/em>showed a wind-driven increase in areal coverage and smoke production from the Kincade Fire<\/strong><\/a> in Northern California on 27 October 2019<\/strong><\/a>. The fire made a rapid southwestward run of approximately 10 miles toward Highway 101 (plotted in red), as Diablo Winds<\/strong><\/a> increased during the nighttime hours — a wind gust of 102 mph<\/strong> <\/a>was recorded at Pine Flat Road<\/strong><\/a> and 93 mph<\/strong><\/a> near Healdsburg Hills<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n GOES-17 True Color Red-Green-Blue (RGB) images from the AOS<\/strong><\/a> site (below) <\/strong><\/em>showed how Kincade Fire smoke expanded across the Pacific Ocean during the day.<\/p>\n GOES-17 True Color RGB images [click to play animation | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>A sequence of VIIRS Shortwave Infrared (3.74 \u00b5m) images from Suomi NPP and NOAA-20 (below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the southwestward expansion of the large thermal anomaly associated with\u00a0 the fire (Note: the NOAA-20 images are incorrectly labeled as Suomi NPP).<\/p>\n<\/a>
