A GOES-14 sounder visible image <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> displayed\u00c2\u00a0 a variety of cloud systems across\u00c2\u00a0 the eastern US at 17:46 UTC on <strong>10 September 2009<\/strong>. A <em>preliminary<\/em> version of the GOES-14 sounder Cloud Top Pressure derived product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated a wide range of cloud tops, from clusters of high <em>(cold)<\/em> clouds over the Gulf Coast region <em>(blue to white color enhancement),<\/em> to patches of low <em>(warm)<\/em> clouds over areas such as eastern Virginia\/North Carolina and central Nebraska <em>(orange to peach color enhancement)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/09\/090910_g14_sounder_ctp.gif\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"GOES-14 sounder Cloud Top Pressure product\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/09\/090910_g14_sounder_ctp.gif\" alt=\"GOES-14 sounder Cloud Top Pressure product\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-14 sounder Cloud Top Pressure product<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Qualitatively, the GOES-14 sounder Cloud Top Pressure values <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> agreed well with those derived using GOES-12 sounder data <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>. Note that both images are displayed using their respective native satellite projections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/09\/090910_g12_sounder_ctp.gif\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"GOES-12 sounder Cloud Top Pressure product\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/09\/090910_g12_sounder_ctp.gif\" alt=\"GOES-12 sounder Cloud Top Pressure product\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-12 sounder Cloud Top Pressure product<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Focusing on the aforementioned low cloud top features seen over eastern Virginia\/North Carolina and over central Nebraska, both the GOES-12 and the GOES-14 Cloud Top Pressure (CTP) derived products indicated that those cloud tops were generally in the 700-800 mb range <em>(orange color enhancement)<\/em>.
