GOES-17 “Red” Visible (0.64 \u00b5m, top)<\/em> and “Clean” Infrared Window (10.3 \u00b5m, bottom)<\/em> images [click to play animation | MP4<\/strong><\/a>]<\/p><\/div>1-minute Mesoscale Domain Sector<\/strong><\/a> GOES-17 (GOES-West)<\/em> “Red” Visible (0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) and “Clean” Infrared Window (10.3 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images (above)<\/strong> <\/em>showed the eye of Category 4 Hurricane Barbara<\/strong><\/a> on 02 July 2019. Mesovortices were briefly seen within the eye in the Visible imagery. Barbara was moving through an environment of low deep-layer wind shear<\/strong><\/a> and over warm water<\/strong><\/a>, factors favorable for rapid intensification (ADT<\/strong><\/a> | SATCON<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

DMSP-17 SSMIS Microwave (85 GHz) imagery from the CIMSS Tropical Cyclones<\/strong><\/a> site (below)<\/strong> <\/em>showed a closed eyewall at 1448 UTC.<\/p>\n
