{"id":312,"date":"2006-12-08T23:49:18","date_gmt":"2006-12-08T23:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/2006\/12\/08\/goes-13-wildfires-in-arkansas\/"},"modified":"2006-12-13T02:59:50","modified_gmt":"2006-12-13T02:59:50","slug":"goes-13-wildfires-in-arkansas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/312","title":{"rendered":"GOES-13: Fire Activity in Arkansas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" title=\"GOES-13, GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m IR images\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2006\/12\/061208_G13_G12_IR2_15.GIF\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" align=\"middle\" alt=\"GOES-13, GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m IR images\" title=\"GOES-13, GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m IR images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2006\/12\/061208_G13_G12_IR2_15.GIF\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"08 December 2006 daily weather map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20061208.html\"><strong>08 December 2006<\/strong><\/a> (Day 2 of the <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"GOES-13 NOAA Science Test\" href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/projects\/goes_n\/\"><strong>GOES-13 post-launch NOAA Science Test<\/strong><\/a>), 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR images from GOES-13 and GOES-12 <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> revealed several &#8220;hot spots&#8221; (black enhancement) due to fire activity (<a title=\"NOAA HMS fire locations\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2006\/12\/hms20061208.jpg\"><strong>NOAA HMS<\/strong><\/a>) across parts of Arkansas (<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"GOES-13, GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m IR images (Java animation)\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2006\/12\/061208_g13_g12_ir2_anim.html\"><strong>Java animation<\/strong><\/a>). The performance of the GOES-13 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m IR channel was comparable to that of GOES-12 for this particular group of relatively small and short-lived fires &#8212; a plot of the GOES-13 vs GOES-12 shortwave IR brightness temperatures <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> for the fire that was located between Russellville (<strong>KRUE<\/strong>) and Hot Springs (<strong>KHOT<\/strong>) Arkansas showed similar values as that particular fire was reaching maximum size and intensity.<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"GOES-13 vs GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m temperatures\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2006\/12\/061208_g13_g12_ir2155.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"361\" align=\"middle\" title=\"GOES-13 vs GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m temperature\" id=\"image313\" alt=\"GOES-13 vs GOES-12 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m temperature\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2006\/12\/061208_g13_g12_ir2155.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 08 December 2006 (Day 2 of the GOES-13 post-launch NOAA Science Test), 3.9\u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR images from GOES-13 and GOES-12 (above) revealed several &#8220;hot spots&#8221; (black enhancement) due to fire activity (NOAA HMS) across parts of Arkansas (Java animation).
