This storm was sampled by a GOES-16 Mesoscale sector, and the 1-minute imagery allowed views of the rotating updraft (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bill_line\/status\/1029933756633702400\">Link<\/a>). The stereoscopic view above, from the GOES-16 and GOES-17 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/CONUS\">CONUS<\/a> sectors, shows the development and evolution of the storm at 5-minute increments (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/08\/G16_G17_B2_19z_15AUG2018_to_02z_16AUG2018anim.gif\">Click here for animated gif<\/a>). To view the storm in three dimensions, cross your eyes until you view 3 images, and focus on the image in the middle.  This storm develops the above-anvil cirrus plume that has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/langley\/severe-storms-show-off-their-plume-age\">shown to be associated with severe weather<\/a>, as in this case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GOES-17 Data shown in this post are preliminary and non-operational!
