A larger-scale GOES-12 visible image <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> showed that at one point this outflow occupied an area approximately the size of the state of Wisconsin!<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/07\/090702_1415_g12_vis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GOES-12 visible image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/07\/090702_1415_g12_vis.jpg\" title=\"GOES-12 visible image\" width=\"480\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-12 visible image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>An overpass of the QuikSCAT satellite provided SeaWinds near-surface wind data <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> which showed that there was southeasterly flow across much of the Bay of Campeche region, but the wind speeds increased from about 10-15 knots ahead of the outflow boundary to 15-25 knots behind the outflow boundary <em>(the winds at Buoy 42055 gusted to <strong>21 knots<\/strong> around 12 UTC)<\/em>. The QuikSCAT wind vectors showing speeds of 34-50 knots <em>(yellow to red colors)<\/em> were not valid, due to rain flags greater than 90%. The air temperature and dew point values barely budged with the passage of this outflow boundary, due in part to the very warm <em>(84\u00c2\u00ba F or 29\u00c2\u00ba C)<\/em> water temperature.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/07\/090702_g12_vis_ir_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GOES-12 visible + GOES-12 IR + QuikSCAT winds\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/07\/090702_g12_vis_ir_anim.gif\" title=\"GOES-12 visible + GOES-12 IR + QuikSCAT winds\" width=\"480\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-12 visible + GOES-12 IR + QuikSCAT winds<\/p><\/div>\n<p>AWIPS images of the Blended Total Precipitable Water (TWP) product <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> suggest that the TPW dropped from about 57 mm <em>(2.24 inches, red color enhancement)<\/em> to around 46 mm <em>(1.81 inches, yellow color enhancement)<\/em> in the wake of this outflow boundary.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/07\/090702_btpw_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Blended Total Precipitable Water product\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/07\/090702_btpw_anim.gif\" title=\"Blended Total Precipitable Water product\" width=\"480\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blended Total Precipitable Water product<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GOES-12 visible images (above) revealed the northward propagation of an large convective outflow boundary across the Bay of Campeche (in the far southwestern Gulf of Mexico) on 02 July 2009.
