A longer Infrared animation (0110-1200 UTC) which includes hourly plots of precipitation type (yellow) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/climo\/reports\/180616_rpts.html\">SPC storm reports<\/a> of damaging winds (cyan) is available <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/180616-17_goes16_infrared_precip_type_spc_storm_reports_MN_WI_MI_svr_flooding_anim.mp4\">here<\/a>. 7-day precipitation departures in some areas were <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/180618_12utc_7day_precip_departure.jpeg\">4 to 8 inches above normal<\/a> for that period (or <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/180618_12utc_7day_precip_percent.jpeg\">600% of normal<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wem.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/MapSeries\/index.html?appid=ce0a4d88bd8d41238943b8a66170ca20\">This link<\/a> from Wisconsin Emergency Management shows aerial pictures of the flood damage. Of note is <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/USHIghway2Break.png\">the break in US Highway 2 to the west of Ashland WI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The heavy rains also affected runoff into Lake Superior. The Nemadji River had <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/180620_Nemadji_River_Below_Superior_hydrograph.png\">crested<\/a> in Superior at a record 29.5 feet on the evening of 17 June (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/dlh\/June15-17_2018flooding\">NWS Duluth summary<\/a>).<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 652px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/180619_1652utc_landsat8_falsecolor_Nemadji_River_Superior_WI_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/180619_1652utc_landsat8_falsecolor_Nemadji_River_Superior_WI_anim.gif\" alt=\"Landsat-8 False-Color image (Click to enlarge)\" width=\"642\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">False-Color image from Landsat-8 on 19 June 2018 (Click to enlarge)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><center><br \/>\n============================ Added 22 June ==============================<\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NOAA&#8217;s Hydrometeorological Design Studies Center (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nws.noaa.gov\/oh\/hdsc\/aep_storm_analysis\/index.html\">Link<\/a>) created an Exceedance Probability Analysis for this event at 6-hour, 24-hour and 72-hout time spans, available <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/06\/AEP_WI_MI_June2018.pdf\">here<\/a> (<a href=\"ftp:\/\/hdsc.nws.noaa.gov\/pub\/hdsc\/data\/aep\/201806_Wisconsin\/AEP_WI_MI_June2018.pdf\">from this link<\/a>).
