and AWIPS images of the MODIS 3.7 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> revealed a number of large fire &#8220;hot spots&#8221; <em>(red to yellow color enhancement)<\/em> that were increasing in areal coverage between 16:29 UTC and 18:14 UTC.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/burn\/wfabba\/wfabba_ontqubec_last.html\">CIMSS Wildfire ABBA<\/a><\/strong> product <strong><em>(below),<\/em><\/strong> some of these fires were hot enough to saturate the 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR sensor on GOES-12 <em>(yellow fire pixels)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/06\/090624_wfabba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GOES-12 Wildfire ABBA product\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/06\/090624_wfabba.jpg\" title=\"GOES-12 Wildfire ABBA product\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-12 Wildfire ABBA product<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition, false color Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images using the MODIS visible channel, the 2.1 \u00c2\u00b5m near-IR &#8220;snow\/ice&#8221; channel, and the 3.7 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> also showed that during the 105 minutes between the 2 MODIS images there was a significant amount of southward displacement to the ice that remained in the northern half of James Bay &#8212; ice in the bay <em>(as well as glaciated ice crystal clouds)<\/em> exhibited varying shades of pink in the RGB image, in contrast to areas of open water <em>(darker blue colors)<\/em> or supercooled water droplet clouds <em>(varying shades of white)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2009\/06\/090624_modis_rgb_2_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MODIS RGB images (R=visible;
