GOES-16 <em>(GOES-East)<\/em> Mid-level Water Vapor (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band09.pdf\"><strong>6.9 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed the large size of the storm circulation, which included a well-defined Warm Conveyor Belt (WCB) and a Trough of Warm Air Aloft (<a href=\"http:\/\/rammb.cira.colostate.edu\/training\/visit\/training_sessions\/trowal_identification\/\"><strong>TROWAL<\/strong><\/a>) as identified <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/01\/180122_1602utc_goes16_water_vapor_WCB_TROWAL.gif\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>. More information on conveyor belts and TROWALs is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/media\/lmk\/soo\/Conveyor_Belts.pdf\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A GOES-16 <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/23225\"><strong>Mesoscale Sector<\/strong><\/a> provided 1-minute imagery over the Upper Midwest &#8212; &#8220;Red&#8221; Visible (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band02.pdf\"><strong>0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed some of the convective elements surrounding the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2018\/01\/180122_surface_analyses_anim.gif\"><strong>surface low<\/strong><\/a> as it reached its occluded stage over Iowa.
