The arrows on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/12\/G16_VIS_NIR_SWIR_SPACEX_LAUNCH_VBG_22DEC2017_380x1280_B257_2017357_012724_0003PANELS_00006_ANOT.gif\">01:27:24 UTC images<\/a><\/strong> indicate the bright pixels on the 0.64 \u00b5m and 1.61 \u00b5m images, as well as the warm thermal anomaly <em>(black pixels)<\/em> on the 3.9 \u00b5m image. GOES-16 was scanning that exact location at 01:28:01 UTC.<\/p>\n<p>The GOES-16 Shortwave Infrared signature was noted by a couple of NWS offices:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It looks like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GOESEast?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GOESEast<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GOES16?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GOES16<\/a>) captured the rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base earlier this evening. It shows up as a &#8220;hot spot&#8221; on the 3.90 micron channel. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fstHI89SKv\">pic.twitter.com\/fstHI89SKv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NWS La Crosse (@NWSLaCrosse) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSLaCrosse\/status\/944390920362962944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 23, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">GOES16 Satellite imagery in the 3.9 micron band (infrared) easily detected the lauch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SpaceX?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SpaceX<\/a> satellite from Vandenberg AFB. Although imaged at 5 min intervals, GOES16 just happened to image right after launch.
