Between 06-14 UTC <em>(11 PM-7 AM local time),<\/em> the surface air temperature increased from 66-91\u00baF at Oxnard (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_KOXR_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>KOXR<\/strong><\/a>), 75-90\u00baF at Point Mugu (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_KNTD_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>KNTD<\/strong><\/a>) and 77-91\u00baF at Camarillo (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_KCMA_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>KCMA<\/strong><\/a>). Surface wind gusts of 32 mph were recorded at Camarillo during this period, although <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_klox_pns,text\"><strong>64 mph<\/strong><\/a> was reported at South Mountain (elevation 2350 feet)..<\/p>\n<p>A warming trend in that same area was also evident in the MODIS Land Surface Temperature product<em><strong> (below),<\/strong><\/em> during the time between the Terra (0539 UTC) and Aqua (0951 UTC) overpasses &#8212; LST values ranged from the low 60s F <em>(lighter shades of yellow)<\/em> to the upper 80s and low 90s F <em>(darker shades of red)<\/em> in the higher elevations.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_modis_land_surface_temperature_SoCal_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_modis_land_surface_temperature_SoCal_anim.gif\" alt=\"Terra and Aqua MODIS Land Surface Temperature product [click to enlarge]\" width=\"640\" height=\"504\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Terra and Aqua MODIS Land Surface Temperature product [click to enlarge]<\/p><\/div>A similar warming signature was seen over Ventura County on GOES-16 Shortwave Infrared (<a href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/OCLOFactSheetPDFs\/ABIQuickGuide_Band07.pdf\"><strong>3.9 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; although an even more pronounced Santa Ana wind warming signal was evident farther to the southeast over Orange County (where winds gusted as high as <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/171024_ksgx_pns,text\"><strong>69 mph<\/strong><\/a>); note how the warmer orange-enhanced infrared brightness temperatures surged southwestward toward the coast.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 649px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/SantaAna_B07_COU_CONUS_logos_loop_2017297_040220_2017297_135720.mp4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/10\/SantaAna_B07_COU_CONUS_logos_800x1200_B7_2017297_080220_0001PANEL_00049_labels.gif\" alt=\"GOES-16 Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m) images [click to play MP4 animation]\" width=\"639\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 Shortwave Infrared (3.9 \u00b5m) images [click to play MP4 animation]<\/p><\/div>A number of record high temperatures resulted from this Santa Ana wind event:<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Final record highs for today across SW CA.
