{"id":24867,"date":"2017-08-26T17:35:48","date_gmt":"2017-08-26T17:35:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/?p=24867"},"modified":"2022-08-26T00:27:34","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T00:27:34","slug":"hurricane-harvey-makes-landfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/24867","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Harvey makes landfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>* GOES-16 data posted on this page are preliminary, non-operational and are undergoing testing *<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As Harvey moved across warm waters in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/08\/Harvey_track_SST.jpg\"><strong>SST<\/strong><\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/08\/Harvey_track_OHC.jpg\"><strong>OHC<\/strong><\/a>), it continued to intensify (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/08\/170826_Harvey_adt.GIF\"><strong>ADT<\/strong><\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/08\/170826_Harvey_satcon_winds.gif\"><strong>SATCON<\/strong><\/a>) to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/aboutsshws.php\"><strong>Category 4<\/strong><\/a> hurricane just before making landfall along the Texas coast around 03 UTC on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20170826.html\"><strong>26 August 2017<\/strong><\/a> (10 pm local time on 25 August). Overlapping 1-minute GOES-16 <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/23225\"><strong>Mesoscale Sectors<\/strong><\/a> had been positioned over Harvey, providing images at 30-second intervals &#8212; &#8220;Red&#8221; Visible (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/education\/docs\/ABI-bands-FS\/ABI%20Fact%20Sheet%20Band%202.pdf\"><strong>0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images prior to sunset<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the approach of the eye.
