GOES-16 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/spacesegment\/abi.html\"><strong>ABI<\/strong><\/a> Water Vapor (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/education\/docs\/ABI-bands-FS\/ABIBand9_MidLevelWV_IR_FINAL.pdf\"><strong>6.9 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) images covering the 13-15 March period <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed the development and motion of this complex storm. .<\/p>\n<p>A closer view of the Northeast US on 14 March <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> displayed some of the complex banding structures associated with the deepening storm, and also showed the sharp gradient of precipitation type along the coastal areas. Notable weather impacts included a storm total snowfall of 48.4 inches at Hartwick, New York, a new all-time 24-hour snowfall accumulation of 31.1 inches at Binghamton, New York, 0.4 inch of freezing rain accumulation at Chesilhurst, New Jersey and a wind gust of 77 mph at Plum Island, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/170314_goes16_water_vapor_band_9_Northeast_US_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/03\/960x1280_GOES16FL_B9_GOES16_WV_B9_NEUS_14MAR2017_2017073_150251_0001PANEL.GIF\" alt=\"GOES-16 Water Vapor (6.9 um) images, with hourly surface weather symbols [click to play animation]\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-16 Water Vapor (6.9 um) images, with hourly surface weather symbols [click to play animation]<\/p><\/div>Some interesting features were also seen in the wake of the large Northeast US component of the storm. For example, a GOES-16 <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/23225\"><strong>Mesoscale Sector<\/strong><\/a> provided 1-minute interval\u00a0 0.5-km resolution Visible (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/education\/docs\/ABI-bands-FS\/ABI%20Fact%20Sheet%20Band%202.pdf\"><strong>0.64 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a>) imagery of lake effect snow bands streaming southward off Lake Michigan on 14 March, which produced heavy snow in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weather.gov\/mkx\/snowreturnsmarch13\">parts of southeastern Wisconsin, northeastern Illinois<\/a> and northwestern Indiana <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/education\/docs\/ABI-bands-FS\/ABIBand10_LowerLevel_WV-IR_FINAL.pdf\"><strong>7.3 \u00b5m<\/strong><\/a> Water Vapor images<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed widespread mountain waves downwind of the southern Appalachians on 15 March.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\"
