The mid-latitude cyclone rapidly intensified from a central pressure of 1004 hPa at 12 UTC on 22 February to 972 hPa at 12 UTC on 23 February (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170222-23_surface_analyses_Storm_Doris_anim.gif\"><strong>surface analyses<\/strong><\/a>) . <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eumetsat.int\/website\/home\/index.html\"><strong>EUMETSAT<\/strong><\/a> Meteosat-10 Water Vapor (6.25 \u00b5m) images<em><strong> (above)<\/strong><\/em> exhibited the &#8220;scorpion tail&#8221; signature of a sting jet (<a title=\"AMS Monthly Weather Review article\" href=\"http:\/\/journals.ametsoc.org\/doi\/full\/10.1175\/2010MWR3290.1\"><strong>Monthly Weather Review<\/strong><\/a> | <a title=\"Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sting_jet\"><strong>Wikipedia<\/strong><\/a>), and surface wind gusts included 58 knots at <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170223_EIDW_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Dublin<\/strong><\/a>, 64 knots at <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170223_EGXT_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Wittering<\/strong><\/a> and 69 knots at <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170223_EGOV_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Valley<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The corresponding daylight Meteosat-10 High Resolution Visible (0.8 \u00b5m) images<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> revealed better detail of the various cloud structures associated with the storm.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170223_meteosat10_visible_Storm_Doris_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/960x1280_AMET10_B12_MET10_VIS_DORIS_23FEB2017_2017054_130000_0001PANEL.GIF\" alt=\"Meteosat-10 High Resolution Visible (0.8 \u00b5m) images, with hourly surface wind gusts in knots [click to play animation]\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meteosat-10 High Resolution Visible (0.8 \u00b5m) images, with hourly surface wind gusts in knots [click to play animation]<\/p><\/div>True-color Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images from Terra\/Aqua MODIS and Suomi NPP VIIRS visualized using <a href=\"http:\/\/realearth.ssec.wisc.edu\"><strong>RealEarth<\/strong><\/a> are shown below.
