Daily composites of Suomi NPP VIIRS true-color Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images (source: <a href=\"http:\/\/realearth.ssec.wisc.edu\/\"><strong>RealEarth<\/strong><\/a>) during the 31 January &#8211; 05 February period <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed blowing dust eventually moving off the coast of Yemen and Oman and across the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea (note the cold frontal arc clouds on <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170203_viirs_tc.jpeg\"><strong>03 February<\/strong><\/a>). The strong Shamal winds on 03 February forced a suspension in the Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament the cancellation of Stage 4 of the Tour of Dubai bicycle race (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170201-03_OMDB_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Dubai meteorogram<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The cold air associated with the Shamal wind was especially evident at locations along the Persian Gulf during the 01-04 February period<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; for example, the daily maximum temperature at\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170201-03_OMAA_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Abu Dhabi<\/strong><\/a> in the United Arab Emirates on 01 February was 31\u00baC (88\u00baF), while it was only 18\u00baC (64\u00baF) on 03 February. At <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2017\/02\/170201-03_OTBD_SFCMG.GIF\"><strong>Doha<\/strong><\/a> in Qatar, their minimum temperature was 9\u00baC (48\u00baF) &#8212; their all-time minimum is 4\u00baC (39\u00baF). Snow fell in the Oman \/ United Arab Emirates border lands, with 10 cm (3.9 inches) reported at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jabal_Jais\"><strong>Jabal Jais<\/strong><\/a>.
