The formerly distinct eye had eroded, although eye re-formation occurs at the end of the animation. Once again, a comparison of <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/161005_1202utc_dmsp18_ssmis_microwave_1215utc_goes13_infrared_Matthew_anim.gif\">microwave vs infrared<\/a> imagery revealed that the well-defined eye structure was much more apparent using microwave data. Strengthening\/Re-organization of Matthew in the near term will be governed by Sea Surface Temperatures (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/SST_field_5October2016.gif\">that are warm<\/a>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/misc\/winds\/info.winds.shr.html\">wind shear<\/a> (shown below, from <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/\">this site<\/a>, that is weak).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_22202\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/wg8shr_0900_5October2016.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22202\" class=\"wp-image-22202 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/wg8shr_0900_5October2016.gif\" alt=\"wg8shr_0900_5october2016\" width=\"640\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-22202\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Diagnosed wind shear, 0900 UTC on 5 October 2016 (Click to enlarge)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Total Precipitable Water fields (from <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/mtpw2\/product.php?color_type=tpw_nrl_colors&amp;prod=global2&amp;timespan=24hrs&amp;anim=html5\">this site<\/a>, using data from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ospo.noaa.gov\/Products\/atmosphere\/mirs\/tpw.html\">here<\/a>), below, show abundant moisture surrounding Matthew at its present position. There is dry air over the eastern United States landmass, however.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 649px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/mimictpw_conus_latest_24hending1200UTC_5October.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/mimictpw_conus_latest_24hending1200UTC_5October.gif\" alt=\"Morphed Total Precipitable water from MIRS, 1300 UTC 4 October \u2013 1200 UTC 5 October (Click to enlarge)\" width=\"639\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Morphed Total Precipitable water from MIRS, 1300 UTC 4 October \u2013 1200 UTC 5 October (Click to enlarge)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the morning and afternoon hours, the satellite presentation of Matthew began to slowly improve on GOES-13 Visible (0.63 \u00b5m) and Infrared Window (10.7 \u00b5m) imagery, below (<a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/161005_goes13_visible_infrared_Matthew_anim.mp4\">MP4<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/10\/161005_goes13_visible_infrared_Matthew_anim.gif\">animated GIF<\/a>), with well-defined convective bursts seen later in the day.
