(August has been very wet over parts of Alaska)  A timely Landsat-8 overpass, in clear skies, on 30 August 2016 allows for excellent validation of the Flood Product.  The animation above (using Images from <a href=\"http:\/\/re.ssec.wisc.edu\/?products=lsat8-llook-fc.100,RIVER-FLDtsp-US.24&#038;center=62.556179976821326,-159.93518829345703&#038;zoom=8&#038;width=1052&#038;height=758&#038;timerange=2016-08-30%2023:30:00,2016-08-30%2023:30:00&#038;timestep=10800s&#038;animationspeed=87.842105263158\">RealEarth<\/a>) cycles between the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AK_30August2016_GoogleBaseMap.gif\">Google Maps terrain<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AK_30August2016_GoogleSatelliteMap.gif\">satellite views<\/a> of the region, <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AK_30August2016_JPSSFloodProduct.gif\">the JPSS Flood Product<\/a> (developed by a group led by Sanmei Li at George Mason University, which product uses reflective channels on JPSS (I01, I02, and I03, 0.64 \u00b5m, 0.86 \u00b5m and 1.61 \u00b5m, respectively) and I05, the 11.45 \u00b5m channel) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AK_30August2016_Landsat8FalseColor.gif\">Landsat-8 False Color overpass<\/a>.  <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/08\/AK_30August2016_Combo.gif\">Diagnosed floods<\/a> in the JPSS Product are distinctly captured in the Landsat-8 False Color product.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Swampy conditions near the meandering Innoko River, a tributary to the Yukon River in Alaska, have been diagnosed by the JPSS River Flood Product near the Innoko&#8217;s mouth on the Yukon.
