The coldest cloud-top IR brightness temperature was -68\u00ba C <em>(darker black color enhancement)<\/em> just to the northwest of Sioux Falls on the 0115 UTC (8:15 PM local time) image. However, because of <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/archives\/217\"><strong>parallax<\/strong><\/a> resulting from the large satellite viewing angle, the actual location of that tall, cold cloud top would have been just to the <em>southeast<\/em> of Sioux Falls (the yellow <strong>+<\/strong> symbol on <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/08\/150828_0115UTC_G13_IR_KFSD_PARALLAX.GIF\"><strong>this image<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>A comparison of 1-km resolution POES AVHRR Visible (0.86 \u00b5m) and Infrared (12.0 \u00b5m) images at 2330 UTC or 6:30 PM local time<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the developing convective storms in greater detail.
