The hazy signature of a dust-laden <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/misc\/sal\/info.html\"><strong>Saharan Air Layer<\/strong><\/a> (SAL) could be seen to the west, northwest, and north of the storm.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/08\/150820-21_Danny_SAL_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/08\/150821_1200utc_Danny_sal.jpg\" alt=\"Meteosat-10 Saharan Air Layer (SAL) product [click to play animation]\" width=\"480\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Meteosat-10 Saharan Air Layer (SAL) product [click to play animation]<\/strong><\/p><\/div>The compact circulation of Danny remained fairly &#8220;isolated&#8221; from the multiple pockets of SAL which stretched westward across much of the tropical Atlantic Ocean <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em>. The relatively clear dust-free air surrounding Danny was tropical moisture being wrapped northward into the circulation from the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), as seen with the <a href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/real-time\/mimic-tpw\/natl\/main.html\"><strong>MIMIC Total Precipitable Water<\/strong><\/a> product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><div style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/08\/150818-21_mimic_tpw_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/08\/150818-21_mimic_tpw_anim.gif\" alt=\"MIMIC Total Precipitable Water product [click to enlarge]\" width=\"479\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>MIMIC Total Precipitable Water product [click to enlarge]<\/strong><\/p><\/div>A close-up view of Hurricane Danny<em><strong> (below; click image to play MP4 animation)<\/strong><\/em> showed some interesting detail in the convective bursts within the eyewall region, in spite of the very oblique satellite viewing angle.
