This MCS was forecast to drop southeastward and continue to produce severe weather during the day on 13 July 2015 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\">Storm Prediction Center<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/products\/outlook\/archive\/2015\/day1otlk_20150713_1300.html\">outlook<\/a>). The toggle above shows the 0420 UTC <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/MODIS_11_0420_13jul2015.png\">Terra MODIS 11.0 \u00b5m image<\/a> and the 0400 UTC <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/GOESSounderDPI_LI_0400_13July2015.png\">GOES-13 Sounder DPI Lifted Index product<\/a> (which is available in realtime <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/rt\/viewdata.php?product=lia_us\">here<\/a>). As the MCS moved over southern Wisconsin, the coldest cloud-top IR brightness temperature on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/MODIS_IR_20150713_0826.png\">0826 UTC MODIS 11.0 \u00b5m IR image<\/a> was -85\u00ba C. The strong system continued to move southeastward as very unstable air as diagnosed by the Sounder fed into it (click <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/RAOB_850_0000_13July2015.png\">here<\/a> for 850-mb RAOB plots). The <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/SuomiNPP1145_0746_13jul2015.png\">0746 UTC Suomi NPP VIIRS 11.45 \u00b5m IR image<\/a>, below, also toggled with a <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/GOESSounder_DPI_LI_0800_13July2015.png\">GOES-13 Sounder Lifted Index product<\/a>, showed a similar story: very strong convection downwind of a source of strong instability.
