some of which were producing heavy downpours over parts of the island chain &#8212; during the\u00a004-05 November 2014 period.<\/p>\n<p>Due to radar outages, the NWS forecast office in <a title=\"Honolulu HI NWS forecast office \" href=\"http:\/\/www.prh.noaa.gov\/hnl\/\"><strong>Honolulu HI<\/strong><\/a> requested that the GOES-15 satellite be placed into Rapid Scan Operations (RSO) mode (<a title=\"NOAA\/NESDIS bulletin\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/11\/141104_goes15_rso_message.text\"><strong>NOAA\/NESDIS bulletin<\/strong><\/a>), providing 10 images per hour<em> (compared to only 4 per hour during routine operations).<\/em> An animation of GOES-15 0.63 \u00b5m visible channel images<em><strong> (below;
