As part of CIMSS participation in <a title=\"GOES-R Proving Ground\" href=\"http:\/\/www.goes-r.gov\/users\/proving-ground.html\"><strong>GOES-R Proving Ground<\/strong><\/a> activities, a Global Hawk flight path tool was developed to display important parameters such as <a title=\"ACHA cloud height algorithm\" href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/clavr\/validation\/acha_avhrr.html\"><strong>ACHA<\/strong><\/a> Cloud Top Height, <a title=\"Tropical Overshooting Tops (TOT) product\" href=\"http:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes_r\/proving-ground\/nhc\/ot\/\"><strong>Tropical Overshooting Tops<\/strong><\/a>, and lightning <em><strong>(above; click image to play animation)<\/strong><\/em>. Global Hawk pilots use this product to navigate the aircraft around locations of potential turbulence.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/09\/140902_goes13_visible_TS_Dolly_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/09\/140902_G13_VIS_RSO_GH_21.GIF\" alt=\"GOES-13 0.63 \u00b5m visible channel images (click to play animation)\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-13 0.63 \u00b5m visible channel images (click to play animation)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To support the Global Hawk investigation of <a title=\"Tropical Storm Dolly (NHC advisory archive)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/archive\/2014\/DOLLY.shtml?\"><strong>Tropical Storm Dolly<\/strong><\/a> on 02 September 2014, the GOES-13 satellite was placed into Rapid Scan Operations (RSO) mode to provide images at 5-7 minute intervals. GOES-13 0.63 \u00b5m visible channel images<em><strong> (above; click to play animation)<\/strong><\/em> and 10.7 \u00b5m IR channel images<em><strong> (below; click to play animation)<\/strong><\/em> are shown which cover the 3-hour period of the Global Hawk flight segment shown above.
