Mesovortices are sometimes seen in the eye and eyewall of tropical cyclones that are going through a period of intensification.<\/p>\n<p>Before sunrise, a 10:30 UTC comparison of GOES-15 10.7 \u00b5m IR and TRMM TMI 85 GHz microwave images from the<a title=\"CIMSS Tropical Cyclones site\" href=\"http:\/\/tropic.ssec.wisc.edu\/\"><strong> CIMSS Tropical Cyclones<\/strong><\/a> site<em><strong> (below)<\/strong><\/em> showed that Iselle was beginning to exhibit the appearance of an annular hurricane; note that the ring of high-intensity rainfall within the eyewall was much larger on the microwave image than the &#8220;cloud-free&#8221; eye that was seen on the IR image.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/140804_1030z_goes15_ir_tmi_mw_iselle_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/140804_1030z_goes15_ir_tmi_mw_iselle_anim.gif\" alt=\"GOES-15 10.7 \u00b5m IR and TMI 85 GHz microwave images\" width=\"480\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-15 10.7 \u00b5m IR and TMI 85 GHz microwave images<\/p><\/div>\n<p>========================= Update, 5 August 2014 ==========================<\/p>\n<p>Hourly imagery from <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/ISELLE_04August_1300_GOES15_IR4.GIF\">1300 UTC on 4 August<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/ISELLE_05August_1300_GOES15_IR4.GIF\">1300 UTC 5 August<\/a> shows Iselle maintaining a generally westward track.  Cloud-top temperatures have warmed over the 24 hours shown, however, and the eyewall is becoming less distinct.  Iselle&#8217;s path has been over <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/Iselle_SST.gif\">SSTs that are progressively cooler<\/a>.
